Energy Law

T&M cultivates an increasingly strong presence across the energy sector in Bulgaria. Between 2007 and 2009 we acted alongside Linklaters as legal counsel to RWE Power AG in the Belene NPP Project, supporting RWE's bid to acquire a share in the planned nuclear power facility - a project of unparalleled value and complexity for the country.

Since 2011 we consult one of the largest Asian corporations on the acquisition, construction, interconnection, finance and putting into operation of its 43 MW solar energy project.

When advising on large-scale undertakings, we take our clients throughout the lifecycle of the project. We cover due diligence and risk assessment, licensing plans, finance structuring, construction, grid interconnection and putting into operation, O&M. We draft offtake, power purchase, grid access and balancing agreements. We offer court defence against illegal acts of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, as well as against infringements by other participants in the energy market. To fully protect our clients' interests, we have developed a strong energy-based contentious practice, regularly appealing acts of the EWRC, while also resolving disputes with the transmission and grid operators.

Our lawyers are experts in energy-related environmental issues spanning conventional pollution, legal requirements concerning carbon capture and storage, hazardous and radioactive activities, noise disturbance and liability for environmental damages.
